School Holiday Fun: How To Make A Flying Ring Paper Plane
How To Make A Flying Ring Paper Plane
Looking for an easy school holiday activity that actually flies?
This Flying Ring Paper Plane takes just a few minutes to make and can glide surprisingly long distances.
What You'll Need
- 1 sheet of A4 paper
- Sticky tape
- Scissors
Step 1
Fold your A4 paper in half lengthways.
Cut or tear along the fold so you end up with two long strips.
You only need one strip for this activity.
Step 2
Take one strip and fold one long edge over by about 1 cm.
Press the fold firmly.

Step 3
Fold the same edge over again.
Repeat until you have made 4 folds in total.
You should now have a long strip with one thick folded edge.
Step 4
Gently curve the strip into a circle.
Rolling it around a marker, water bottle or your fingers can help create a smooth curve.

Step 5
Join the two ends together.
Tuck one end slightly inside the other and secure with tape.
You should now have a large paper ring.
Step 6
Check that your ring is as round as possible.
A smooth circle usually flies better than a squashed one.

How To Fly It
Hold the ring in your hand with the folded edge facing forward.
Throw it overhead like a football with a smooth, gentle motion.
Flying Ring Challenge
Can your Flying Ring:
✈️ Travel the furthest?
✈️ Stay in the air the longest?
✈️ Fly through a target?
✈️ Beat Mum or Dad's design?
Try making different-sized rings and different shaped tails to see which one performs best.
